History – Things You Should Know About Mathematics

Mathematics is just about as old as the existence of this universe. Of course, humans discovered or understood this concept it a lot later, but it has always been in existence. From ancient times, mathematics has been essential for making progresses in engineering, science, and other ways of life. It has been continuously moving forward since the beginning of time, from simple calculations, to the methodical learning of the figures and motions of moving objects etc.

At the present, there is one leading subject of mathematics studied throughout the world. But its root lies in various civilizations of the human history.  It has histories in ancient Egypt, Babylon, Greece, China, India, Medieval Europe, and some other Islamic counties as well. After countless transcriptions and development of many theories over a period of several hundred years, it was developed as mathematics of the world.

Although, in places like China, India, and Japan, mathematics was developed implicitly, the other areas did not show much impact until later on the development of contemporary international mathematics.

Mathematics During Primeval Times

The roots of mathematical beliefs exist in the conceptions of number, dimension, and formulas. It is said that such theories might have been a part of ordinary life cultures of those who lived by hunting other animals or wild plants. There is proof like Lebombo Bone and Ishango Bone, that antediluvian people could comprehend simple mathematics, along with the astronomy. Lebombo bone is about 37,000 years old and found in Swaziland. It contains 29 scratches engraved into it like a tally stick, which might have been used for counting. Ishango bone was found on the current border between Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

During 16th Century

During the 16th century, astronomy researchers like Newton, Johannes Kepler, and Galileo Galilei, made a good use of mathematical concepts for precisely determining the motion of the various planets. Pythagoras theorem was also developed in 16th century by Pythagoras, who was a great mathematician and scientist.

During the Renaissance period in 16th century, the growth of mathematics and accounting were entwined. The children of merchants were taught both the subjects through books published on these subjects so that they could learn the skills required to deal with trade and commerce.

During 17th Century

The 17th century was all about inventions of mathematical formulas and astronomical discoveries in Europe, also spreading throughout the world. Astronomers like Galileo, Tycho Brahe, and Kepler made various discoveries in the field positions of plants, planetary movements in their orbits, and moons revolving around those planets. Also Isaac Newton unveiled the concepts of calculus, and Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, advanced the concepts of calculus that are still in use today.

During 18th Century

In 18th century, mathematics had become a very advanced subject. Leonhard Euler was perhaps one of the most influential mathematicians of that time, he contributed significantly in normalizing many contemporary mathematical terms and symbols.

During 19th Century

In 19th century, Carl Friedrich Gauss, a German mathematician, did ground-breaking work with complex variables, algebra, statistics, differential geometry, and made many more contributions in the field of science and mathematics.

During 20th And 21st Century

In 20th century, mathematics became a major line of work. Yearly, many people involved in mathematical field, were awarded Ph.Ds. for their work in mathematics. Today more and more jobs are available for mathematicians in research & analysis, and teaching industry. Since the beginning of this century, many new mathematical theories have been established.  Many mathematical papers are available in print and online versions. The most noteworthy thing about this subject is that its presence is almost every field is rising significantly and its concepts are utilized by various professionals across the globe.
